About the Artist
In Valerie Blauvelt's Words
My Journey to Becoming an Artist Was Anything but Conventional
After a 32-year career in marketing and executive leadership, I retired believing my creative work was behind me. Although I had spent years collaborating with graphic designers and creative teams, I never imagined I would one day become a professional artist. Moving to Florida introduced me to the world of abstract art and opened a door I never knew existed. What began as curiosity quickly became a passion and ultimately a second career.
As a self-taught artist, I was drawn to the freedom and spontaneity of abstract painting. I rarely begin with a predetermined destination. Instead, each painting evolves intuitively as I respond to layers of color, texture, and movement, allowing unexpected discoveries to emerge throughout the creative process.
Nature is a constant source of inspiration, but my goal is not to recreate a particular landscape or place. Instead, I strive to capture a feeling that encourages viewers to pause, look a little longer, and discover their own memories, emotions, and personal connections. One of the things I love most about abstract art is that every person brings a unique perspective, making each experience with a painting deeply personal.
I continue to explore new techniques, materials, and ideas, always learning and growing as an artist. I am deeply grateful for the encouragement of my family, friends, collectors, and designers whose support has made this unexpected journey possible.
I never expected to become an artist, and I remain grateful every day that I discovered a creative capability that lay hidden for so many years. Creating art brings me tremendous joy, but what means the most is knowing that one of my paintings has connected with someone else in a meaningful and lasting way.
