Valerie Blauvelt is a contemporary American artist who lives and works both in Naples, Florida and Canandaigua, New York. She excels in the use of color and texture to achieve a variety of visual effects that are transformed into dynamic paintings.
Viewing her work elicits strong emotional reactions and gives you an exciting sensory experience. As an abstract artist who is self-taught, she has an innate sense of color theory and composition. Through her use of color, texture, and gestural techniques, she combines movement and dimension with invigorating energetic expression. She uses color as her "voice" to communicate her feelings, ranging from a soft whisper to a loud shout. Her work takes you on a visual journey that will spark your imagination to see what is beyond the canvas.
Valerie's professional art career has been unconventional. After a successful 32-year corporate career in Marketing, she discovered the artistic talent that lay hidden within, and her passion for abstract painting was unleashed. As a "late bloomer", her artistic career has quickly gained momentum.
Her work has been acquired by private art collectors and interior designers and has been sold through a gallery in Naples. She has done many commissioned pieces of art for individual collectors. Other accomplishments include being featured in a private exhibition at Imagine Art Gallery in the resort town of Skaneateles, N.Y, (2017) and being invited to give an abstract painting workshop to a local Art Club. She has earned awards for her paintings at upstate New York art shows, where her work has been sold. Her paintings have been exhibited at the Arnot Museum of Art in Elmira, New York and the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, New York. Valerie's work was accepted into the juried Small Painting Exhibition (2019) and the Traces of Red Exhibition (2019) sponsored by the Naples Art Association. Based on a highly competitive jury selection process, she received a special invitation to be featured in an Artist Showcase article published by Artsy Shark (2019). Her painting, "FreeBird", was recognized as the Most Outstanding Abstract painting in the February 2019 BoldBrush juried competition and she was featured as a recommended artist in the Informed Collector. Her entry in the 9th Annual “Open” (No Theme) juried art competition was chosen for inclusion in the September 2019 Light Space & Time On-line Art Exhibition in the Special Recognition category. In the October 2019 Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery's 3rd Annual “Patterns” Art Exhibition, two of her paintings were selected out of 650 entries and both won Special Merit Awards for outstanding art. Valerie was voted into the National Association of Women Artists in October 2019. During the month of November 2019, her work will be exhibited at the NAWA Gallery in NYC.
She enjoys using her artistic talent to support the fund-raising activities of charitable organizations. For several years, she has donated paintings to the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester ARTrageous events. Being an animal-lover, Valerie has donated artwork to the Pars for Paws Golf Tournaments to benefit the Volunteer Services for Animals in Naples, Florida.
Valerie is a member of the Naples Art Association, The Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers, and the National Association of Women Artists.
